Improving Hospital Productivity in the Middle-East

To remain profitable, healthcare providers need to deliver high quality care while managing rising costs. Labour expenses constitute the majority of operational costs in healthcare in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. At the same time, healthcare providers in the GCC are undergoing an acute shortage of manpower, while facing a growth in demand for healthcare services. As it is increasingly imperative for hospitals to improve their cost-effectiveness, Kronos was interested in introducing novel approaches to shape the level of workforce productivity in the GCC.
Kronos partnered with Eden Strategy Institute to identify hospital productivity best practices across the region and assess their impact. We reviewed the region’s healthcare systems, and identified emerging trends and challenges particular to the unique cultural and geopolitical nuances of GCC countries. Through a series of in-depth engagements with senior executives managing the top healthcare organizations in the GCC, we identified various productivity approaches that have proven to positively impact different revenue and cost levers, while alleviating other challenges faced by hospitals such as staff turnover rates, patient re-admission rates, and overcrowding of healthcare facilities. We summarized the range of productivity solutions, implementation steps, case studies, and impact measures in a framework for healthcare providers to systematically evaluate the suitability of various investments.
This supported Kronos’ efforts in the region to educate healthcare organizations and help them realize the benefits of workforce productivity, which will be instrumental in expanding the provision of quality healthcare throughout the GCC area.
