Assessing the Impact of Gender-Inclusive programmes

CONTEXT

United Women Singapore is one of the key organizations in Singapore championing gender equality, with a mission to build a pipeline of future women leaders in Singapore and across the region.

With women contributing about 45 percent of Singapore’s workforce, only 30 percent are in infocomm-related roles. Even though 50 percent of local undergraduates, they remain under-represented in IT courses and engineering courses. It is therefore imperative to take action and ensure that women have equal opportunities, pathways, role models, confidence, knowledge, exposure, and resources to advance their careers in these fields. As our future will be driven by emerging technologies and other STEM-related fields, United Women’s mission has to align with these trends to develop future women leaders in these aspects as well.

APPROACH

Eden therefore became a key partner in United Women Singapore’s journey better evaluate and track their social impact and contribution to their goals. We first conducted an impact assessment of Project Inspire, the social enterprise grant programme before the organization transited to United Women Singapore. The impact assessment included an in-depth data analysis across 3,000 social enterprises across the region, evaluating their problem statements, social business model, scale of impact, and programme delivery. We also supported United Women Singapore in capability building on Social Impact Measurement, where we shared the challenges of social impact tracking, different use cases of varying measurement tools, and Eden’s Social Impact Canvas to guide the team in developing their own assessment framework. Last but not least, Eden also conducted a Strategy Workshop with the team to articulate the organization’s unique value proposition as well as the team’s vision of success and Theory of Change.

IMPACT

United Women Singapore was able to kickstart its journey in tracking its social impact to communicate to its donors, employees, volunteers, and partners their contribution to its mission, therefore continually garner their support to sustain, improve, and invest in the organization and its programmes.
